John Cathey, CMRP
Asset Management & Reliability Specialist, Jacobs
John Cathey currently provides technical advisory services to transform the Asset Management delivery services for the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). Prior his current position he was instrumental in creating the corporate asset management program for Chugach Government Solutions (CGS) which provides the basis for their maintenance operations around the world. Prior to CGS he worked as a Maintenance & Reliability Engineer with Jacobs Technology at NASA Langley where he helped implement their on-line condition monitoring program. He was responsible for identifying the critical assets to be monitored as well as the type of monitoring that was appropriate. While at Langley he also acted as the field engineer for the pipe and building trades shop where he performed RCA and PM Optimizations. Before moving to Virginia John started with Jacobs, then Sverdrup at Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in California. This is where he first began to really understand how much he had to learn about maintenance beyond turning wrenches. He developed a crude CMMS from Microsoft Access to track when PM's were due and whether they had been completed or not and he also realized this is what he wanted to do 'when he grew up'. It was at AFRL where he was first introduced to the term reliability by the team from Arnold Engineering Development Center and Ramesh Gulati and the quest for more knowledge really began. Prior to joining Jacobs John served in the USAF and retired after 20 years serving in both operations and maintenance roles. John attained a BS in Industrial Technology and later an MS in Technology Management. John is Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) as recognized by the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) and a Certified Reliability Leader as recognized by the Association of Asset Management Professionals.
