Howard W Penrose, Ph.D., CMRP is the president of MotorDoc LLC, a veteran owned small business, past web-editor-in-chief for the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society and past chair of the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP), and he is a leading researcher in electrical signature analysis and related IoT in collaboration with MotorDoc?s partner Framatome. He is a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP), RCM Analyst and Facilitator (NAVSEA/NAVAIR), vibration analyst, electrical signature analyst and infrared analyst, as well as multiple other technologies with over 35 years in the electric machine and industrial/commercial systems reliability from design to maintenance. He received 5 UAW-GM People Make Quality Happen Awards from 2005- 2009 for facilities maintenance program development and awards for his books on electrical motor diagnostics and physical asset management. He is a past senior research engineer for the University of Illinois? (UIC) Energy Resources Center and past adjunct professor of industrial engineering and industrial safety at UIC. Dr. Penrose has been involved in electrical machine technologies from design to repair and applications to forensics on electrical and mechanical systems from nuclear power to steel, the LVAD heart pump to NASA wind tunnels and hybrid passenger vehicles and heavy equipment from General Motors to John Deere, wind turbine advanced analysis and reliability techniques and flywheel storage technology. His company, MotorDoc LLC, is responsible for electric machine condition for the largest chiller plant in North America (National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD) as well as similar electrical reliability projects globally. He is the past chair of SMRP Government Affairs and has advised Homeland Security, NIST and policymakers as part of SMRP standing committees related to cybersecurity and cyberphysical systems of physical asset management (IIoT), smart grid and critical infrastructure. He is a member of IEEE, IEEE Standards Association, Life Member SMRP, Vibration Institute, AWEA and Life Member MENSA. In his spare time, he is the managing partner in a major powerlifting gym near Chicago and a world-class powerlifting competitor, referee and trainer with numerous world, national and state records, including Team USA World Champion for the World Powerlifting Congress (2012-2019) Masters Division.
