Ohio Falls Station Hydroelectric Plant

Step back in time during a tour of LG&E and KU’s Ohio Falls Hydroelectric Generating Station ― a historic landmark that has generated reliable, clean power for 92 years. The eight-unit facility was considered an engineering marvel when it went online in 1927. A recent multi-year renovation upgraded the plant with cutting-edge technology, increasing its generating capacity from 80 to 101 megawatts, while retaining its historical integrity. This tour features a first-hand look at the engineering and operating features and challenges associated with maintaining the reliable operation of a decades-old facility. It will include a journey to the plant’s basement 12 feet below the Ohio River, across the original turbine room floor and to the roof for a birds-eye view of the surrounding community.
